University Partners on Black Music Month Street Dance, Exhibit
Don Cornelius of "Soul Train"
There will be dancing in the street on the Fayetteville Square Thursday night, June 7 as the University of Arkansas office of diversity affairs and Fayetteville First Thursday combine for a Black Music month celebration.
Soul Train, the classic television program that brought the newest black popular music into American homes every week for decades, is the focus of the celebration. It kicks off at 5 p.m. with a photo exhibit of classic images from the program, on display in the lobby of the Global Campus.
A VH1 documentary on the program,The Hippest Trip in America,will be screened at 6 p.m. in the Global Campus auditorium.
Both the film and photo exhibit are free of charge.
The dance troupe Afrique-aya will perform on Center St. starting at 7:30.
From 8-9 p.m. everyone is invited to move onto the street themselves to show their own moves, dancing to the DJ sounds of the greatest black music in history.
All of this is free and the public is invited.
