New Wireless Networks on Campus

University Information Technology Services at the University of Arkansas is rolling out two wireless networks with improved performance and speed. The new networks, UA Wireless and UA Secure, are designed to improve security for UARK users and provide on-campus guest access. During the rollout period, some buildings on campus will have the new networks, while others will remain on the UA-WLAN network. Over time, UA Wireless and UA Secure will replace UA-WLAN in all buildings.

Users can determine which system is in place in any given building by checking the available wireless networks in the Macintosh or Windows internet settings. When UA Wireless and UA Secure appear in the list of available networks, installation has been completed. If UA-WLAN appears in the list, users can continue to connect without change until the installation is completed.

UA Secure provides improved security and protection for users and the university, as well as unlimited access to online services. When connecting to UA Secure, a valid UARK username and password are required.

UA Wireless is a guest network that allows access to the web, but blocks other services. Anyone visiting the university can use UA Wireless without a guest username and password. When connecting to UA Wireless, a valid e-mail address (ex., jsmith@anywhere.com) is required.

For more on how to connect to a wireless network on campus, go to the UITS wireless page.
