FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – “There’s an app for that” has become a commonplace phrase, and in fact there is a mobile phone application for almost everything. On Friday the University of Arkansas becomes one of the first schools in the Southeastern Conference to have it’s own full-featured app with the launch of UARKmobile — the official smart phone application for the university.

From campus news to event calendars to Razorback scores to the entire library catalog, the university app will provide quick access to university information.

Anyone who has watched students walking across campus, arms outstretched with mobile computing devices in hand, knows that students get a lot of information from their smart phones. UARKmobile changes the way students can access information from the university and how the university can get information to those students.

“I use my phone for almost everything,” said Ashley Cloud, a senior majoring in journalism. “I can check my e-mail or Facebook while walking across campus between classes. Students my age rely on our phones now more than ever before. I’m excited that the University of Arkansas is making it even easier to access the information I want with UARKmobile.”

And while getting information to students in the way they want it is important, this application is not just for students. Anyone interested in the University of Arkansas or the Razorbacks will find something worthwhile in this app.

“We see UARKmobile as a way to connect with a wide audience,” said Chancellor G. David Gearhart. “Prospective students, current students, faculty, staff, alumni or just Razorback fans — anyone can find something useful in this application, and it’s free.”

Users of the UARKmobile application suite will find a series of apps that will inform them about what is happening surrounding the University of Arkansas. Read the latest news from Arkansas Newswire and The Arkansas Traveler. Watch videos from the official University of Arkansas YouTube channels. Get the latest Razorback sports team news, scores and highlights. Search the library catalogs. Look up what courses are being offered now and in the upcoming semester. Find any event from gallery shows to the performing arts and lectures. The app allows the users to do all of this, and more ideas are being developed on a regular basis.

The UARKmobile application is currently available for users of the iPhone. The university plans to extend its availability to other smart phone platforms in the near future.
