Inaugural Razorvets Banquet to Celebrate Veterans

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – University of Arkansas faculty, staff, students and alumni who are currently serving or have served in the U.S. Armed Forces will be honored during the first Razorvets: Celebrating Veterans banquet at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at the Janelle Y. Hembree Alumni House.

“We have many wonderful faculty, staff and students who are veterans or are currently serving in the Armed Forces,” said Erika Gamboa, director of the University of Arkansas Veterans Resource and Information Center. “I hope this event is a reminder of how thankful we are for their service to our country and contributions to the university.”

Col. Dennis O. May, deputy director of the Veterans Employment Services Office for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, will be the keynote speaker for the event. May is a 1981 graduate of the University of Arkansas with a bachelor’s degree in public administration.

Also during the program, the 188th Fighter Wing will present a special Razorback flag to Graham Stewart, executive director of the Arkansas Alumni Association. The Fort Smith unit of the Arkansas Air National Guard, dubbed “The Flying Razorbacks,” flew the flag over Afghanistan in one of its A-10 Warthog fighter jets.

The banquet is sponsored by the Veterans Week Celebration Committee and Tyson Foods. The event is co-hosted by University of Arkansas Veterans Resources and Information Center and the Arkansas Alumni Association.
