FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Kat Wilson, master of fine arts student in the department of art, was selected as one of 26 artists to have works included in the Combined Caucus Exhibition sponsored by the Society of Photographic Education at the Harrington College of Design. The exhibition will be held in conjunction with the 2013 SPE National Conference, March 7-10 in Chicago.

“I’m thrilled to have two photographs in the Society of Photographic Education Combined Caucus Exhibition,” Wilson said. “My piece, Kevin Arnold, Painter, is from a November photo shoot and will also be used for my MFA thesis show in April. The other piece, Pink House, Fayetteville, was shot this summer for Home, a show I curated in September through sUgAR Projects and the Anne Kittrell Gallery.”

The Pink House, Fayetteville is part of Wilson’s Habitats series, which is her most popular work from her pre-graduate days.

Wilson is also preparing for a show at Arsaga’s Depot on Dickson St. in Fayetteville. The show will feature the “Habitats” of local celebrities and will premier on the same evening as her M.F.A. thesis show in the Fine Arts Gallery.

In addition to having two photographs selected for the exhibit, Wilson also received a Student Travel Scholarship for the 2013 Society of Photographic Education Conference. Awardees were chosen by a committee, which received nearly three times the usual number of scholarship applications. The committee noted that Wilson’s accomplishments, artwork and dedication all contributed to her award.

“Kat’s work is alluring and provocative and there is no surprise in her continued success,” said Jeannie Hulen, associate professor of ceramics and chair of the department of art in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences.

Wilson’s work has been published regionally and internationally, including pieces in the Los Angeles Times, the Arkansas Democrat Gazette, the Washington Post, Little Rock Monthly and Communication Arts. Examples of her work may be seen in the SPE Member Gallery.
