KUAF Launches Fall Fund-Raiser, Almost Half-way to $135,000 Goal
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — National Public Radio affiliate, KUAF 91.3 FM, launched its fall on-air fund-raiser Friday, October 12. With a goal of $135,000, the station hopes to reach this goal in fewer than four days , setting a new record for shortest fundraiser in the station’s history. The fall fund-raiser is one of two annual on-air campaigns.
“During last spring’s fundraiser, we raised $145,000, making it the most successful fundraiser as far as money raised. This fall we’d like to set a record for shortest fundraiser in our history, raising our goal in four days or less,” said Rick Stockdell, KUAF general manager. “The money raised from this year’s two fundraisers will make up 22 percent of our $1.2 million dollar budget.” This fall’s fundraiser will be number 38 for the station. In addition to the semi-annual fund-raisers, in 1987 listeners responded to a special on-air campaign by contributing $20,000 to fund the station’s conversion to 100,000 watts - the strongest signal allowed by the Federal Communications Commission.
Volunteers, drawn from a pool of approximately 75 people, will be on hand during the fall fund-raiser to answer phones and take payments and pledges. Dozens of area restaurants have contributed food and refreshments to feed volunteers throughout the event.
KUAF started promotion of the on-air fundraiser in late September, as they also started countinig early contributions. “Encouraging members to give early allows for more concentration on new members during the on-air fundraiser,” said KUAF Membership Director, Leigh Wood. “A broad base of support makes for a strong public radio station, and getting a broad base means always attracting new members.”
KUAF, with a weekly audience of more than 55,000 listeners, broadcasts throughout northwest Arkansas, and into southern Missouri, eastern Oklahoma and the River Valley.
