Law Students to Host Fashion Benefit

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Miss University of Arkansas Ann Wizer will join University of Arkansas School of Law faculty members and local attorneys as models during the Esquire Attire Fashion Show at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 24, at Teatro Scarpino in Fayetteville. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.

The event will benefit Fayetteville’s Peace at Home Family Shelter and will be hosted by the School of Law’s Women’s Law Student Association. The law firms of Kutak Rock LLP and Matthews, Campbell, Rhoads, McClure, Thompson & Fryauf are also sponsors for the event.

The Peace at Home Family Shelter is dedicated to ending family violence and to building healthy families. The shelter offers support, prevention and education to propel this mission. They also offer legal and personal advocacy to more than 1,000 individuals every year. Most of the women who use the shelter are mothers, and, usually, half of the shelter’s beneficiaries are children. Peace at Home strives to reverse the damage of domestic violence, especially on children, through child advocacy and parenting education.

This is the third year the Women’s Law Student Association has hosted the fashion benefit. The organization is comprised of female law students who attempt to resolve issues facing women both at law school and in the community while cultivating common professional interests and goals.

Faculty models at the event will include Dean Cynthia Nance and professors Steve Sheppard, Phil Norvell, Karen Koch, Mary Beth Matthews, Angie Doss, Janet Flaccus and adjunct professor Marshall Prettyman. Attorney models will include School of Law alumni Niki Cung (J.D. ’96), Bill Putman (J.D. ’91) and Doug Martin (J.D. ’97).
