MACK MCLARTY TO DONATE HIS PAPERS TO THE UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS ON TUESDAY, MARCH 30

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Thomas F. "Mack" McLarty, former special envoy for the Americas, will donate his papers to the University of Arkansas in a brief ceremony scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 30, in Mullins Library on the UA campus.

Reporters from print and broadcast media are invited to attend.

McLarty and his wife Donna will be the special guests of the University on March 29 and 30. At 2:30 p.m. on Monday in Giffels Auditorium, he will give the opening speech for the 17th annual Fulbright Institute Symposium. The theme for the symposium is "The Americas in Transition: New Developments in the Southern Cone." Reporters are encouraged to attend this talk as well.

McLarty, an Arkansas native and University of Arkansas graduate, left the White House in July 1998 after serving in several top positions including chief of staff, counselor to the president, and special envoy for the Americas. In the latter post, he played a key role in forging stronger U.S. relations with Latin American countries.

The collection he’ll donate will include papers and memorabilia from his early years in Hope; his leadership role as a student at the U of A; his involvement in state politics; his achievements in expanding the family-owned transportation and automotive business; and his tenure as chairman and CEO of Arkla, Inc. Also included will be personal items from his White House tenure and current business and consulting work.
