Mary Ann Greenwood Honored by Beta Gamma Sigma

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The Sam M. Walton College of Business, University of Arkansas, chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma honored alumna Mary Ann Greenwood as its 2004 honorary initiate. Greenwood is president and chief investment advisor of M.A.Greenwood & Associates, Fayetteville, Ark.

Beta Gamma Sigma vice presidents Marlena Sweeney and Adi Masli made the presentation at the chapter’s annual induction ceremony, held at the Clarion Inn on April 6.

Established in 1913, Beta Gamma Sigma is the oldest and most prestigious national academic honor society for business students. The Alpha of Arkansas Chapter was founded on the UA campus in 1932. The top seven percent of the junior class, top 10 percent of the senior class and top 20 percent of the graduate class are extended membership in the organization. John Norwood, associate professor of business law, director of the Walton College’s Honors Program, and the faculty advisor, announced the chapter had been awarded a $1,000 scholarship, which is given to chapters with exceptionally high membership acceptance rates. He also announced that the Alpha of Arkansas Chapter has received bronze designation from the national office, given to the third most outstanding chapter in the country. This award comes with a $1,000 scholarship.

Greenwood received her BSBA in finance and banking in 1962, an MA in economics in 1972 and Ph.D. in economics and finance in 1979 from the Walton College. In 1982, she established M.A. Greenwood & Associates, a fee-only investment advisory firm. She not only serves on the Walton College’s Dean's Executive Advisory Board and the Arkansas Business Hall of Fame Selection Committee, but also on the UA Campaign for the Twenty-First Century Steering Committee, the UA National Development Council and as vice chair of the UA Foundation. For almost 10 years, she has played an instrumental role in attracting nationally known economists to the College’s Business Forecast luncheon.

Walton College Dean Doyle Z. Williams introduced Greenwood to the crowd of more than 200 students, parents, faculty and UA administrators. He said: "The Walton College and Beta Gamma Sigma are very proud to recognize Mary Ann Greenwood as one of our exceptional graduates. She is an individual who exemplifies the qualities of leadership and vision that we try to instill in our students."
