Memorial Service Planned for World-Renowned Architect Fay Jones

WHAT: The life and work of architect Fay Jones will be celebrated with a memorial service. The service, approximately one hour long, will be followed by a gathering around the Fulbright Peace Fountain, the last work designed by Jones prior to his retirement in 1998.

WHO: Confirmed speakers include UA Professor Emeritus of Journalism Roy Reed, who conducted a series of interviews with Fay Jones for the UA Arkansas Center for Oral and Visual History; Norman Koonce, Executive Vice President and CEO of the American Institute of Architects; Vernon Reed, architect and former student of Jones; and Jeff Shannon, dean of the School of Architecture. Robert Ivy, Editor-in-Chief of "Architectural Record" and Jones' biographer, also may speak at the service.

WHEN: 2 p.m., Wednesday, September 29, 2004

WHERE: Giffels Auditorium, Old Main, on the University of Arkansas campus.

REGARDING PHOTOGRAPHY AND RECORDING: No cameras will be allowed into the memorial service. The family asks that interview requests wait for another time. Broadcasters wishing to shoot footage outside are asked to stay well clear of the fountain area in order to allow the service to take place unimpeded. Reporters and news crews may interview friends and colleagues of Fay Jones outside before or following the service.
