New Assistant Director Hired to Help with Greek Effort

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Donald Wood, a Westminster College alumnus from Forth Smith, has joined the Office of University Development as assistant director of development for regional programs.

The assistant director of development for regional programs will focus on a new University development program for Greek housing. Wood will report to John Tolleson, director of development for regional programs. He recently completed an Americorps Promise Fellowship with Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Northwest Arkansas, where he worked in program and development. He is currently a volunteer with the organization.

“We are delighted to welcome Donald to the University Development team,” John Tolleson said. “Donald brings an enthusiasm, understanding and experience of participation in Greek life to this position that will be very valuable as he works with current members of UA fraternities and Greek alumni to raise funds that will help strengthen the overall Greek system on our campus.”

Wood earned a Bachelor of Arts in communications from Westminster College and served as president of the student body Sigma Chi fraternity. He recently completed his Masters of Arts in communications at the University of Arkansas.
Initiated by the UA Greek Task Force, a volunteer task force of alumni, students and UA staff designed to improve the Greek system are being implemented.
One of the recommendations included an opportunity for Greek organizations operate under University of Arkansas ownership, which gives chapters full advantage of services offered by the University such as, housekeeping, maintenance and staff support. To date, two fraternities, Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Sigma Nu, are participating in the new arrangement and have engaged in fund-raising initiatives.
