Nursing Students Conduct Lively Health Fair for Elementary School

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Students from the UA Eleanor Mann School of Nursing will hold their annual Health Fair at Grace Hill Elementary School in Rogers from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16. Since activities rotate throughout the day, it will be possible to observe lively interaction between nursing students and children at any time. (There will be a lunch break from noon to 12:30 p.m.)

Nursing students will show approximately 500 elementary school children that health can be fun while promoting healthy habits for a lifetime. Dressed as dancing fruits and vegetables, a troupe of nursing students will perform two skits written to teach nutrition basics. Other students will staff booths that teach about such subjects as growing strong bones and maintaining dental health.

For the past nine years, senior nursing students have organized the spring Health Fair at local elementary schools to learn organizational and management skills while experiencing first-hand the role of nurse as teacher.

Photographers and reporters must check in at the school office to receive a visitor’s pass and go from there to the gymnasium or cafeteria. Nursing students, Julie Spears and Joe McCall, can answer questions and assist media on-site.
