OFFICIAL RINGS TO BE PRESENTED

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - For only the second time in the University’s history, a number of 2003 graduates will receive Official University of Arkansas Rings at a ceremony to be held on Monday, April 21, at 4:00 p.m. at the Janelle Y. Hembree Alumni House.

The Official Ring, unveiled last spring by Chancellor John A. White, was developed to foster loyalty, pride and recognition among Arkansas alumni, and is the only ring that symbolizes the shared experience, achievement and pride of all University of Arkansas graduates. Chancellor John A. White will present the Official Rings to students who placed their orders after achieving verified senior status.

This annual ceremony is becoming a meaningful tradition that, like Senior Walk, ties graduates to the University. Until the day of graduation, the ring will be worn on the right hand with Old Main facing the individual. During the graduation ceremony, the new alumni will be prompted to reposition the ring, similar to the tradition of changing the side of the tassel on the mortarboard. The ring and its shining beacon of hope enables the wearer to recognize fellow graduates, and to be recognized, at a glance.
