FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The University Libraries are hosting an open house to recognize Geographic Information Systems Day. The open house will be on the east end of Level 4 of Mullins Library on Wednesday, Nov. 16. GIS Day is an international event designed to showcase real-world applications of GIS technology.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., presenters in Mullins Room 486 and 487 will showcase results obtained through GIS technologies in a wide variety of projects including archaeology, terrorism monitoring, public health, retail, wildlife management, transportation, and other environmental assessments. The 2004 aerial imagery of Benton and Washington counties, as available through a Web-based viewer, will also be demonstrated. The staff from the Center for Advanced Spatial Technologies will present the new laser scanning technologies, as used at archeological sites in Bolivia and Peru. In addition, UA student and faculty works will be demonstrated and displayed.
