Osher Lifelong Learning Institute Plans Open House on Fayetteville Square

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Arkansas will host an open house Tuesday, Aug. 26, from 10 a.m. to noon at the University of Arkansas Global Campus , 2 E. Center St. on the Fayetteville Square. Current Osher Institute members and adults over 50 seeking information about the popular Osher Institute program are encouraged to attend. Fall classes will begin Sept. 2 and include “Study Groups,” a “Dine & Discover” series, and “Out & About Thursdays.”

“The University of Arkansas is pleased to offer quality programs through The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute,” said Linda Beene Ballard, dean of the university’s Global Campus and associate provost. “This exciting program reflects the university’s commitment to a mission of teaching, research, and service to the people of Arkansas and beyond.”

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute is for people over 50 who want to pursue intellectual interests, old and new. Courses are noncredit, and there are no tests, grades or papers to write. The courses, taught by current and retired university faculty and by community experts, are designed so participants not only share intellectual interests but also make new friends. Classes will be held on the university campus and at other northwest Arkansas locations.

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Arkansas is the only Osher Institute in the state and one of more than 100 that have been established by the Bernard Osher Foundation since 2002. The foundation, which was founded in 1977, recognized that the number of older people in the United States is growing rapidly and saw an opportunity to help develop vibrant learning communities of older students who are interested in learning for the joy of learning.
