Osher Lifelong Learning Institute Seeks Instructor Volunteers

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Arkansas is currently recruiting instructor volunteers to teach its fall 2009 classes. The main areas of focus for these classes are the arts and humanities.

This is a wonderful opportunity for graduate students working on their thesis, for professors who have written a book, for those conducting research, or anyone who has travelled to an interesting location to share and gain experience with an eager learning audience.

Osher Institute participants choose from three types of classes: Dine and Discover, where lunch and a speaker on an interesting topic are provided; Out and About, which are field trips to tour areas of interest around central Arkansas; and Study Groups, which are weekly classes meeting for a two- to four-week period. The Osher Institute is currently in the process of arranging courses in all three areas, but will remain open to other topic recommendations, as well.

The Osher Institute was begun in the interest of lifelong learning for seniors. The institute at the University of Arkansas is the only one in the state and one of more than 100 institutes that have been established thanks in part to a grant from the San Francisco-based Bernard Osher Foundation. Classes are available each fall and spring, with fall classes starting in September.
