Parker Named Director of Operations Management

Fayetteville, Ark. - Sandra Parker, professor emeritus, has recently assumed responsibility as the chairman of studies and director of the operations management program within the industrial engineering department in the College of Engineering at the University of Arkansas.

Parker joined the industrial engineering department in 1985 and played an integral part of establishing the Material Handling Research Center, a consortium of universities that collaborate and conduct research into logistics and material handling. Funded by the National Science Foundation as well as industry partners, it later evolved into The Logistics Institute.

Parker has received the Halliburton Award for Excellence in Research in Industrial Engineering and was the College of Engineering nominee for the University of Arkansas Burlington Northern Foundation Outstanding Teacher Award. She has twice received the Outstanding Industrial Engineering Professor from the student chapter of industrial engineering and the Halliburton Award for Excellence in Teaching in Industrial Engineering.

The operations management program grants more Master of Science degrees than any other program at the University of Arkansas. The degree is based upon industrial engineering and public administration principles. Students may specialize in business management, human resources, industrial management or safety and health-care management.

The program is open to students from all undergraduate backgrounds, and offers flexible, evening classes in eight-week terms. Geared toward working students, the program is offered at off-campus sites including Little Rock Air Force Base; the Naval Support Activity Mid-South in Millington, Tenn.; Hurlbert Field, Fla.; Camden, Ark.; and Blytheville, Ark.
