Progress of Enterprise Consortium Brings Microsoft to Campus
One of the main purposes of the visit is to discuss current successes of and next steps for the Microsoft Enterprise Consortium and to award a $75,000 gift to the information systems department in support of phase II of the project. The consortium is a joint program between the department of information systems in the Walton College and Microsoft Corp. The purpose of the joint program is to enhance learning and research by providing to the academic community, worldwide, access to large and compelling real world datasets for both teaching and research. The datasets are to support business intelligence, data mining, database instruction and data warehousing by university faculty and researchers using Microsoft technology.
Further, the joint program will develop and refine course modules for a wide variety of courses. In its first semester, the Microsoft Enterprise Consortium has attracted faculty members representing more than 80 universities worldwide.
Jensen will spend the majority of the day with information systems faculty members; Dan Worrell, dean of the Walton College; and leaders from the office of university development.
