Razorbikes Now Available on University of Arkansas Campus

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The parking and transit department and Associated Student Government of the University of Arkansas are making bicycles available to the campus community on a “borrow, ride and return” basis, thanks to a donation of seven bicycles by Regions Bank.

Mike Seither thanks Don Keesee, city president of Regions Bank in Fayetteville for Razorbikes donation.

“Bicycles are a great means of alternative and sustainable transportation, especially in a densely populated environment like the university,” said Mike Seither, associate director of transit. “Besides, they’re fun.”

Seither unveiled the Razorbikes program together with Don Keesee, city president of Regions Bank in Fayetteville, at a news conference Tuesday, July 15.

“Regions Bank is pleased to be part of the university’s sustainability efforts,” said Keesee. “Everyone can remember how much they loved their first bike. There was a feeling of simplicity, freedom, and easiness – the same feeling we are working to create in banking. These seven bicycles represent a good beginning and we expect to be adding to the Razorbike fleet as the program grows.”

The program is jointly sponsored by the transit and parking department and the Associated Student Government. It is designed to make community bicycles available to students, alumni, faculty and staff. In addition to the bicycles donated by Regions Bank, the transit department also plans to recycle a number of used bikes, with a goal of fifty Razorbikes for the campus.

Members of the campus community can register for the program at the parking office, in the Administrative Services Building on Razorback Road, or at the Harmon Avenue Garage.

“Once they sign up, they will be given a pass-code which will unlock any Razorbike on campus for their use,” Seither explained. “Each bike can be used as transportation on or around campus for short trips and then be made available for the next user. Our intention is to provide as many bicycles as we can for as many users as possible.”

There is no fee to register for the Razorbikes program, but all users will be required to read and understand the rules of use, which include safety rules. They must also sign a user agreement, prior to accessing unlock codes.
