Search Committee Formed for Fulbright Dean

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. Chancellor G. David Gearhart has appointed Robert McMath, interim provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of Arkansas, as chair of a committee to identify the next dean of the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences.

McMath has appointed a search committee of faculty and students from across the University of Arkansas campus. Committee members include:

  • Paul Adams, assistant professor, department of chemistry and biochemistry
  • Denise Beike, associate professor, department of psychology
  • Steve Boss, associate professor, department of geosciences
  • Joe Candido, professor and chair, department of English
  • Gisela Erf, Tyson Professor, department of poultry science
  • Kevin Fitzpatrick, professor and Jones Chair, department of sociology
  • Chaim Goodman-Strauss, professor and chair, department of mathematical sciences
  • Amy Herzberg, professor, department of drama
  • Karen Hodges, interim director of undergraduate admissions
  • Gerald Jordan, associate professor, department of journalism
  • Ronda Mains, professor and chair, department of music
  • David McNabb, associate professor, department of biological sciences
  • Bruce Pontious, associate vice chancellor, Division of Advancement
  • Greg Salamo, Distinguished Professor, department of physics
  • Beth Schweiger, associate professor, department of history
  • Rachel Thomas, undergraduate student, department of chemistry and biochemistry
  • Sonia Toudji, graduate student, department of history

“This is an outstanding search committee that is broadly representative of the college and also includes members from the larger university community who will bring particularly useful perspectives to bear on this important task,” said McMath.

The committee, which met for the first time on Friday, Feb. 6, plans to identify promising candidates by early May.
