SECOND-YEAR STUDENTS WIN LAW SCHOOL NEGOTIATIONS COMPETITION

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Tracy Oates, a second-year student from Fayetteville, and Darlene Weston, a second-year student from Monett, Mo., captured the University of Arkansas School of Law's recently completed 2004 American Bar Association's Negotiations Competition.

Leon Jones of Pine Bluff and Steven Moses of Arlington, Texas, finished second behind the Oates-Weston team. The other two semifinalist teams consisted of Jennifer Akre and Scott Hill, both of Sugar Land, Texas, and T.J. Fowler of Little Rock and Winston Collier of Searcy.

The competition involved teams working to successfully represent a client’s interest in a settlement negotiation with opposing counsel. Local attorneys and faculty members served as judges for the event with Professors Sharon Foster, Robert Moberly and Judith Kilpatrick judging the final round.

The intra-school competition was in the Law School courtroom and was open to all law students.
