Spring Schola Cantorum Concert

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The University of Arkansas' premiere choral ensemble, Schola Cantorum, will present it's spring concert at 8 p.m. Monday, May 1, at the Walton Arts Center.

In honor of the 250th Anniversary of Bach's Death, the ensemble will perform Bach Cantata No. 131 "Aus der Tiefe rufe ich, Herr, zu dir" with a chamber orchestra. The choir will also perform Igor Stravinsky's Mass for Mixed Chorus, Vocal Quartet and Double Wind Quintet, and Norman Dello Joio's "Song of the Open Road" for Piano (Mary Scott Spry) with special guest Trumpet soloist Wiff Rudd of the UA music department. The text for this last work is taken from Walt Whitman's epic poem by the same title.

The evening's program will begin with a brief performance by a special guest choir, the Springdale High School A Cappella Choir directed by Randy Erwin.

Tickets are $5 adults, $3 senior citizens, and $1 students.
