Student Fee Review Board Makes Recommendations
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The University of Arkansas Student Fee Review Board, on Monday, April 3, made recommendations pertaining to certain student fees proposed for the academic year of 2000-01. Tuition and fees will be voted on by the University of Arkansas Board of Trustees on Friday, April 7 in its regular meeting at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
The Student Fee Board voted in support of the proposed increase in the Student Health fee from $4 per credit hour to $6 per credit hour. The University Health Center is funded primarily through a health fee. This fee would provide 73 percent of the Health Center income that the board agreed would assure good public health on campus.
The Student Fee Board also unanimously recommended that the UA administration investigate and eliminate the situation in which faculty and staff who already pay health insurance are charged the student health fee when they register to take classes.
The Student Fee Board gave unanimous approval to the student technology fee already in place and requests that it remain uncapped. The current technology fee is $2 per credit hour. No increase in this fee is being proposed to the Board of Trustees for 2000-01.
The Student Fee Board also requested that the title of the Cultural Activity fee be changed to the Fine Arts fee to avoid confusion regarding the definition of the word culture. This fee is currently $3 per semester and no change is being recommended to the Board of Trustees.
In addition to these proposals, the Student Fee Board has proposed that all student fees be reviewed next fall with the objective of examining past and expected expenditures to make sure that value is being received for the fees that are collected.
