Ten UA Students Earn Sturgis Fellowships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Ten University of Arkansas freshmen have been awarded Sturgis Fellowships to the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences.

The UA considered 20 finalists, from across the country and Arkansas, before it narrowed the selection down to 10 scholarship winners.

Recipients include - Ben Austrin-Willis of St. Louis; Haley B. Beverburg of Springdale; Sarah G. Black of Royal; Rebecca K. Claus of Tower City, N.D.; Edward A. Corcoran of Mena; Diana M. Dunn of Maben, Miss.; Iris A. Ferguson of Fayetteville; Sarah M. Gilbert of Mountain View; Kristina G. Partrick of Fort Smith and John L. Rowton of Rector.

The Sturgis Fellowship is made possible by an $8,000,000 endowment from the Roy and Christine Sturgis Charitable Trust to the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences.

Each Sturgis Fellow receives $48,000, $12,000 per year, and provides every student with one of the most prestigious scholarships offered by any university in the country - providing for tuition, room, board and discretionary funds for computers, musical instruments, professional journals, trips to conferences and travel abroad during junior year.

Former Sturgis Fellows have graduated from the U of A and gone on to win highly competitive awards like the Rhodes Scholarships and Marshall Fellowships. Many have even pursued graduate studies at some of the most prestigious schools in the nation.
