Three Candidates to Interview on Campus for Dean of College of Education and Health Professions

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Three candidates for the position of dean of the College of Education and Health Professions at the University of Arkansas have been selected by the search committee to visit the campus for interviews.

Each candidate will spend two days meeting with the search committee members, university administrators, faculty, department heads and administrators from the College of Education and Health Professions, as well as with members of the local health and education community and university students.

The candidates will each make a public presentation during their visit on the topic “Trends in Education and Health Professions: Where Do We Go From Here?” All presentations will be held in the Graduate Education Auditorium, Graduate Education Building, Room 166, on the University of Arkansas campus. The public is welcome to attend the presentations.

M. Jayne Fleener, the E.B. “Ted” Robert Professor and dean of the College of Education, Louisiana State University will be on campus May 11 and 12 and will give her presentation to the campus community at 3:30 p.m. Monday, May 11. Fleener has a doctorate in curriculum and instruction, a Master of Arts in Teaching in mathematics and a Master of Arts in philosophy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has previously served as associate dean for research and graduate studies at the University of Oklahoma at Norman.

Jeffrey W. Gilger, associate dean for discovery and faculty development in the College of Education, Purdue University, will be on campus May 18 and 19 and will give his presentation to the campus community at 3:30 p.m. Monday, May 18. Gilger has a doctorate in developmental psychology and behavioral genetics and a Master of Arts in experimental psychology/personality from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a Master of Science in clinical child/school psychology from California State University, Hayward. He previously held the positions of professor and chair of the department of child and family studies and professor of communication disorders at California State University in Los Angeles, and was the director of the Multidisciplinary Human Biology Program at the University of Kansas.

Jimmy H. Ishee, dean of the College of Health Sciences, Texas Woman’s University will be on campus May 21 and 22 and will give his presentation to the campus community at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, May 21. Ishee holds a Doctor of Philosophy in movement science and physical education from Florida State University in Tallahassee and a Master of Education in health, physical education and recreation from Delta State University in Cleveland, Miss. He previously served as the dean and as a professor in the School of Health Sciences at Georgia College & State University and as the assistant/associate dean and professor of the College of Health and Applied Sciences at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway.

Dean Reed Greenwood announced in 2008 that he would retire at the end of the 2008-09 academic year and return to the faculty.
