UA Alumna and Lab Coordinator Honored by American Chemical Society

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Dr. Gwendolyn Mattice will be honored for her efforts in promoting National Chemistry Week during the American Chemical Society (ACS) national meeting in Philadelphia, August 24. More than 90 volunteers will be recognized for their many contributions to enhancing the public's appreciation of chemistry and the success of the National Chemistry Week program.

Mattice serves as advisor to the Student Affiliates of the ACS and was a past chair of the Local ACS Section. For the past eight years she has organized hands-on experiments in the community while promoting National Chemistry Week. She is the laboratory coordinator for the department of chemistry and biochemistry and holds a doctorate in chemistry from the U of A.

The American Chemical Society is a self-governed, individual membership organization that consists of more than 159,000 members at all degree levels and in all fields of chemistry. The programs and activities conducted by ACS today are the products of a tradition of excellence in meeting member needs that dates from the society's founding in 1876.
