UA Black History Month Opens with UCA History Professor, Miss Arkansas
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The University of Arkansas will start the celebration of Black History Month with an opening program at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, in the Arkansas Union Theatre. The event is free and open to the campus and the northwest Arkansas community. The program is designed to reflect, celebrate and challenge everyone to commemorate the accomplishments of Africans in America since the 1600s.
The featured speaker at the opening program will be Theman Taylor, associate professor of history at the University of Central Arkansas, whose speech is titled “Reaffirming Afrikan American History Month: What it Means to Be a Member of the Afrikan American Community in the Year 2006.”
Also scheduled to speak and perform is Eudora Mosby, Miss Arkansas 2005. In addition, students, faculty and staff will present performances ranging from monologues to singing. A reception will immediately follow in the Anne Kittrell Gallery.
