UA COMMITTEE ON FAIR LABOR AND UNIVERSITY LICENSING TO MEET AGAIN ON OCT. 20; PRESENTATIONS OPEN TO PUBLIC

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The UA Committee on Fair Labor and University Licensing will hold its third meeting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, in Room 512 of the Arkansas Union.

The first half of the meeting — featuring three presentations — is open to the public on an observers only basis. The second half of the meeting will be closed for committee discussion, according to a unanimous vote of the committee taken at the last meeting.

The presentations will be by three committee members:

-- Claudia Mobley, instructor and managing director, UA Center for Retailing Excellence, on the apparel industry.

-- Ali Sadeghi, UA Bookstore manager, on the Bookstore code of conduct.

-- Matt Shanklin, assistant athletic director for marketing/licensing, men’s athletics, on how licensing works at the U of A.

The Committee on Fair Labor and University Licensing was established by Chancellor John A. White. Its charge is to examine various proposals for monitoring the conditions under which products bearing the University’s marks and logos are manufactured, particularly in less developed nations, and submit recommendations by January 30, 2000, for consideration by the UA executive committee.
