UA INSTRUCTOR NAMED ARKANSAS NURSE OF THE YEAR

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Joyce McConaughy, clinical instructor of the Eleanor Mann School of Nursing in the UA College of Education and Health Professions, was named Outstanding Member of the Year by the Arkansas Nurses Association at their state convention. McConaughy was selected from the statewide membership of the organization in recognition of her consistent contributions to the advancement of professional nursing in Arkansas and her leadership in the association.

"The Eleanor Mann School of Nursing is proud of the Dr. McConaughy’s well-deserved recognition," said Barbara Conrad, director of the school. "Her extensive background in nursing and superb contributions are a tremendous asset to the Mann School and our students."

McConaughy, who received her doctorate from the University of Arkansas in 1997, has 26 years experience teaching nursing at the associate and bachelor’s level. She has worked in 11 hospitals and is experienced in all aspects of hospital nursing, having begun at age 15 as an aide. She taught multi-national, multi-lingual nurses and ancillary personnel in a military hospital in Saudi Arabia. She is a decorated member of the Army Nurse Corps Reserves.

In the 15 years she has taught nursing students at the University of Arkansas, McConaughy has been active in developing the curriculum of the nursing school. Currently she is chair of the Faculty Council of the College of Education and Health Professions.
