UA PROVOST TO VISIT WITH STUDENTS AT LEVERETT ELEMENTARY

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - University of Arkansas Provost Bob Smith will tour Leverett Elementary and visit with students from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 27.

The provost's appearance is in conjunction with "Principal for a Day." He will be shadowing Jennifer Lawson, principal of Leverett Elementary.

Smith will read to three classes, as well as meet with 5th graders to share a few words of encouragement, stressing the importance of higher education.

"We are delighted to have Provost Smith at Leverett Elementary," Lawson said. "Obtaining a college education is essential for the young people of today, and what better way to communicate that message than through the Provost of the University of Arkansas. The administration, staff and students at Leverett Elementary are looking forward to learning more about college education and the University."

The provost will begin the visit with an overview and tour of the school, followed by lunch with Leverett's teachers. After lunch, the provost will read aloud to first grade students, followed by motivational fireside chats with 4th and 5th grade students.

"I am greatly looking forward to my special visit to Leverett Elementary on February 27," Smith said. "The visit will provide a vivid reminder of how important all components of our state's education system are in providing educational opportunities for the adult citizenry of tomorrow.  I also hope to share my wish with the Leverett students that they consider seriously studies that they may engage in during the rest of their lives."

All media is invited to attend the event. Principal Lawson requests those who attend to enter through the Garland east entrance and register in the front office.
