University of Arkansas Committee Named to Seek New Provost

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — University of Arkansas Chancellor-elect G. David Gearhart announced today the appointment of a committee to conduct a national search for a provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs to replace Bob Smith, who will join the faculty full-time on July 1..

The committee is made up of administrators, faculty, staff and student representatives. The committee will be chaired by Chancellor-elect Gearhart. The committee members, listed in alphabetical order, are:

Linda Beene Ballard, dean and associate provost of the School of Continuing Education and Academic Outreach; Dennis Brewer, associate vice provost for research in the Graduate School; Brad Choate, vice chancellor-designate for university advancement; Carmen Coustaut, associate vice chancellor for institutional diversity and education; Gisela Erf, holder of the Tyson Avian Immunology Professor in the poultry science department; Amy Farmer, holder of the Margaret Gerig and R.S. Martin Jr. Endowed Chair in Business in the economics department;

Carter Ford, the 2008-09 president of the Associated Student Government; Inza Fort, chair-elect of the Faculty Senate and a professor of kinesiology; Judy Ganson, associate librarian; G. David Gearhart, chancellor-elect; Greg Herman, associate professor of architecture; Sharon Hunt, head of the health science, kinesiology, recreation and dance department; David Jolliffe, holder of the Brown Chair in English Literacy in the English department; Cody Kees, student;

Ajay Malshe, holder of the Twenty-First Century Professorship in Materials, Manufacturing and Integrated Systems in the mechanical engineering department; Cynthia Nance, dean of the School of Law; Don Pederson, vice chancellor for finance and administration; Judy Schwab, assistant vice chancellor for university advancement; Kathy Van Laningham, vice provost for planning and director of institutional research; and Kattie Wing, director of financial aid.
