University of Arkansas Names Pugh New Dean of Students

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The Office of Student Affairs is pleased to announce that Daniel J. Pugh Sr. will join the university staff as associate vice chancellor for Student Affairs and dean of students, effective Sept. 26. His salary will be $101,000.

Pugh will continue to serve in his current capacity as dean of students and associate vice president for Student Life at Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Wash., until Sept. 20.

“We are very pleased that Daniel Pugh has agreed to join the University of Arkansas as its new dean of students,” said Johnetta Cross Brazzell, vice chancellor for Student Affairs. “At Eastern Washington University, he has spent the past five years overseeing improvements to the Student Life areas and providing leadership and direction to Student Affairs departments. He has also maintained close ties with the student body, advising the Associated Students of Eastern Washington University, and he regularly spends time with individual students and student groups. He will serve as an excellent inclusion to the university family.”

Pugh, a native of Memphis, Tenn., earned a bachelor of science in communication and a master of science in education from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. He earned a doctorate in higher education from the Institute of Higher Education at the University of Georgia.

“My family and I are very excited about coming to the University of Arkansas,” Pugh said. “I am looking forward to working with students, faculty, staff and alumni. I am especially excited about the prospect of working with Vice Chancellor Brazzell and assisting in furthering the initiatives aimed at integrating students into the university community.”

Prior to joining EWU in 2000, Pugh held positions as the director of judicial programs at the University of Georgia, the area coordinator of residence education at Virginia Tech University and as hall director at the University of Tennessee.

Pugh is married to married to Denice Williams Pugh, and they have two sons.
