University of Arkansas Police Traffic Stop Leads to Major Drug Arrest

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – It began as a routine traffic stop for Officer Paul Edwards of the University of Arkansas Police. At about 9:15 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, he stopped a car for a traffic violation on Stadium Drive. After getting permission to search the car, Edwards found approximately four pounds of marijuana. He and UAPD officers Crandall Edwards and Bobby Ingle and Cpl. Sid Ramirez arrested Brandon Oren Armstrong, 22, of Fayetteville, and Christopher Lee Summers, 19, of Elkins, for possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. Armstrong and Summers are not affiliated with the University of Arkansas.

The UAPD officers contacted detectives with the 4th Judicial Drug Task Force after the arrest, and investigators obtained a search warrant for a residence at 1925 W. Lawson.  

On Sunday, Dec. 14, detectives of the drug task force, assisted by the Fayetteville Police Department and Washington County Emergency Response Team, executed the search warrant, seizing approximately 10.75 pounds of marijuana, 0.5 grams of methamphetamine, items of drug paraphernalia, three guns and approximately $44,747.

Police arrested Julie Ann Cooper, 21, and Lenny Gene Albrecht, 28, for possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver (marijuana), possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of drug paraphernalia, simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, and proximity to certain facilities-enhanced. The enhancement charge relates to the drug activity occurring within 1,000 feet of a school.
