University Of Arkansas Sponsors Alcohol Awareness Week 2000

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The University of Arkansas will sponsor Alcohol Awareness Week 2000 from Nov. 13-17, with a number of events scheduled.

At 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 10, Chancellor John A. White signed an Alcohol Awareness Week 2000 declaration in front of the Arkansas Union to kick off awareness week events taking place at various areas on campus.

Monday will feature "Alcohol Jeopardy" from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Arkansas Union to test the audience’s knowledge of the dangers of alcohol.

Tuesday’s event, "From Survival to Living: A Personal story of drinking and Recovery," will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. in Old Main’s Giffels Auditorium, where UA graduate student Becky Baumann will share her struggle with drinking and recovery.

On Wednesday, a "Brown Bag Lunch Seminar" will be held in Room 504 of the Arkansas Union from noon to 1 p.m., where attendees will learn more about how to help a student, friend or family member suspected of alcohol abuse.

On Wednesday evening, a "Mocktails Party" will be held at Pomfret Hall in the Great Room at 9 p.m. where four events will be held.

During the Mocktails Party, "Walk the Line" will give participants the chance to experience the seriousness of intoxication under a pair of simulation goggles, "Students in Recovery" will provide U of A students with the opportunity to share their personal struggles with alcohol, and a presentation entitled "Drunk Driving: Do You know the Road Ahead" will be shown. Students will also get the chance to win door prizes during "Alcohol Jeopardy" as well.

Thursday will repeat "Alcohol Jeopardy" and the presentation "Drunk Driving: Do You Know the Road Ahead" at the Union Connections Lounge from noon to 2 p.m.
