University of Arkansas Student Government Organizes 'Campus Restoration Day’

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Associated Student Government of the University of Arkansas is working with the department of facilities management and the Volunteer Action Center to organize a campuswide cleanup event to help remove the tree limbs and other debris from last week’s ice storm.

“Campus Restoration Day” will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5. Many campus organizations have already signed up for this event. Students who want to volunteer individually or as part of a group can e-mail vac@uark.edu with names and e-mail information for everyone recruited to participate. Volunteers can also specify an area where they would like to work.

Student volunteers who have not received assignments through the action center can go to the Central Quad between the Arkansas Union and Mullins Library any time during the cleanup. No volunteers will be turned away the day of the event. The campus has been divided into cleanup zones and supervisors at the Central Quad can direct volunteers to where they are needed. Students, faculty and staff members will also guide volunteers to the areas where debris can be safely deposited. 

Volunteers are asked to take safety precautions before coming to work. Please wear long pants, closed-toe shoes, gloves, hats and some type of eye protection. Volunteers should not move large branches, but focus on the medium- to small-sized limbs. All volunteers will be asked to sign in and sign a waiver before starting to work.
