University of Arkansas Students and Professors Debate 'The Meaning of McCain v. Obama’

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – University of Arkansas professors and the student leaders of the College Republicans and the Young Democrats will debate and discuss “The Meaning of McCain v. Obama” at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, in Room 338 of the Leflar Law Center. The debate is free and open to the public.

Tori Adams of the University of Arkansas Young Democrats will argue for Sen. Barack Obama, while Rachel Davis of the College Republicans will present her case for voting for Sen. John McCain. Steve Sheppard, the William H. Enfield Professor of Law in the School of Law, will act as moderator of the debate.

Also on hand will be Donald Kelley, political science professor and director of the Fulbright Institute; Patrick Stewart, political science professor; and Henry McLeish, the Hartman Hotz visiting professor. The professors will offer their views on the issues surrounding the election, how the election is being viewed by those outside the United States and what the possible outcomes of the election mean for the future.

The debate is sponsored by the Hartman Hotz Trust Committee, the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Law.
