UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS TO CELEBRATE SELECTION AS TRUMAN FOUNDATION HONOR INSTITUTION WITH NEWS CONFERENCE AND SPECIAL PROGRAM FEATURING FORMER TRUMAN SCHOLARS
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The University of Arkansas is celebrating its selection a Year 2002 Truman Foundation Honor Institution Award recipient with a special program at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 27, in University House, located at 1002 W. Maple St. across from the UA Law School. A news conference with Louis Blair, executive secretary for the Harry S. Truman Foundation, and Mary Tolar, deputy executive secretary for the Foundation, will be conducted prior to the program at 10:30, also at University House. Also available at the news conference will be Suzanne McCray, associate dean, University of Arkansas Honors College.
The University has invited former Truman Scholars who will be speaking at the program, along with Chancellor John A. White and keynote speaker Mr. Blair.
The University is one of four institutions of higher learning nationally to be selected as a year 2002 Truman Foundation Honor Institution Award recipient. The announcement was made in May by the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation of Washington D.C.
The award recognizes the University as one of the highest performing institutions in the 27-year history of the scholarship program, which is designed to recognize and encourage the nations’ most outstanding students who aspire to careers in government and public service. Ten UA students have been awarded Truman Scholarships, the first in 1978.
A mult-box will be provided for broadcast media. Parking is limited directly adjacent to the University House, but media permit parking is available in lot 29 located at the corner of Garland and Maple Streets.
