University of Arkansas to Hold “Diversity Impact 2005”

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The University of Arkansas welcomes prospective students to its campus for "Diversity Impact 2005," Thursday, Nov. 17, through Saturday, Nov. 19.

"Diversity Impact 2005" is an excellent opportunity for prospective students from diverse backgrounds in Arkansas and surrounding states to tour the UA campus, meet with faculty and students, and experience what the university has to offer. Participants will have the opportunity to take the ACT test (an entrance requirement for college admission) and speak with faculty and staff about attending the University of Arkansas, including admission processes, financial aid, scholarships and areas of study. They can then attend the Friday evening Razorback basketball game as Arkansas plays Portland State.

"Diversification of our students, faculty, and staff is the most important overarching goal of our student-centered research university," said Bob Smith, University of Arkansas provost. "This year's program will contribute significantly to meeting this overarching goal, and I am grateful to the dedicated staff who are making this year's program a reality."

"Diversity Impact 2005" attracts multicultural students from high schools in Arkansas and neighboring states. Dawn Medley, director of admissions, said she believes "this is an excellent event for students that offers a chance to experience the University of Arkansas. By providing this opportunity, the university is able to showcase the educational avenues available to all students. By bringing students to campus, we feel that more students will take advantage of all the university has to offer." Students and family members participating in the event are encouraged to take advantage of free transportation provided by the university.

In addition to providing transportation to the UA campus for "Diversity Impact 2005," the university will also provide lodging in a residence hall to student participants.
