UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS TO HOLD STUDENT RECRUITMENT JAMBOREE IN FORREST CITY

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. --- The University of Arkansas will hold a student recruitment jamboree for prospective students and their families at the Forrest City Civic Center from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, with UA Chancellor John White, UA Men’s Athletics Director Frank Broyles, UA Enrollment Dean Arlene Cash, and UA alumni and students from Forrest City as featured speakers.

The jamboree will provide information, advice and counsel to anyone in Eastern Arkansas wishing to learn more about the educational opportunities and financial aid the University of Arkansas can offer. University admissions officers will be present to answer questions individually.

The event will feature musical entertainment by UA students, drawings for University Bookstore certificates worth $200, the Razorback mascot, plenty of refreshments and much more.

Forrest City resident Kirk Billingsley, a 1998 finance graduate of the University of Arkansas and a 1994 graduate of Lee High School, will be master of ceremonies. Billingsley is a registered representative and broker for Advantage Capital and Capital Financial Services Group.

Forrest City resident Kristen Collier Wright, a 1998 English honors graduate from the University of Arkansas and a 1994 graduate of Forrest City High School, will speak about her experiences at the U of A and what it has to offer students from Eastern Arkansas. Wright is an associate attorney for the Hale, Headrick, Dewey, Golwen, Thornton & Chance law firm in Memphis.

Donesha Williams, a UA junior mathematics major from Forrest City and an honors student in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, will speak from the perspective of a current student. She will be joined by a panel of UA students from Eastern Arkansas.

Arlene Cash, dean of Enrollment Services, will talk about how to apply to the University, and admissions officers will be on site to provide additional information.

The six schools and colleges of the University of Arkansas—agricultural, food and life sciences; architecture; arts and sciences; business; education health professions; and engineering—will staff information booths and make representatives available to talk individually with students and their families.

UA staff members will be available to provide information about other aspects of the University, including financial aid and scholarships, housing, the honors program, study abroad, and much more.

The University Bookstore will award five $200 gift certificates to prospective students who register for drawings to take place throughout the evening.

Families are encouraged to attend, bringing with them not only high school juniors and seniors, but younger brothers and sisters who might be interested in someday attending the University of Arkansas.
