UNIVERSITY RELATIONS PUBLICATIONS WIN CASE DISTRICT III AWARDS

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. --- Two publications produced by the Office of University Relations have won "Awards of Excellence" from District III of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), the world’s largest education association.

The winning publications are University of Arkansas Research Frontiers, a semi-annual magazine designed to showcase UA research programs to 23,000 readers nationwide, and the lead brochure for the University’s Campaign for the Twenty-First Century, produced in October 2001 for 5,000 readers.

The awards will be presented at the CASE District III conference Feb. 3-6 in Atlanta.

"This is the first time we have entered the District III awards program, as our outlook tends to be national rather than regional," said Roger Williams, associate vice chancellor for University relations. "We entered only these two publications, and both of them won major awards, so evidently our peers across the South like what we do."

District III comprises Virginia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Florida. Two years ago, the University of Arkansas moved from the Southwestern District to District III to affiliate more strongly with its peers in the Southeastern Conference.

University of Arkansas Research Frontiers is produced by Melissa Blouin, editor; Allison Hogge and Carolyn Garcia, science and research communications officers; Roy Cordell, assistant director of University relations; Eric Pipkin, art director; Shawnna Sexton and Leigh Caruthers, designers; Russell Cothren, photographer, and J.D. White, photography assistant.

The major players for the Campaign lead brochure were Roy Cordell, design and production; Laura Jacobs, manager of development communications, writing and project management; and Russell Cothren, photography. University Advancement administrators G. David Gearhart, Sandy Edwards, Clay Edwards, and Judy Schwab also played vital roles in bringing the publication to fruition.

The Campaign lead brochure was printed by the UA’s Printing Services, under the direction of Rich Bundsgaard.
