Garrison Financial Institute to Host CNBC Commentator

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Garrison Financial Institute, in partnership with the Arkansas Chartered Financial Analysts Society, will host Carter Braxton Worth, a frequent CNBC market commentator, at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, in the Global Financial Markets Center in Willard J. Walker Hall on the University of Arkansas Campus.

This presentation is free and open to faculty and students, but attendees must register in advance by e-mailing: gfi@walton.uark.edu.

The topic of Worth’s presentation will be “Technical Analysis of Current Financial Markets.” Larry Holland of the Arkansas Chartered Financial Analysts Society will talk about the benefits of holding the CFA designation. Troy Clark, CFA, fixed income strategist for Stephens Inc., will discuss how current government policies affect the fixed income markets. 

In addition, the Garrison Financial Institute, housed in the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas, and the Arkansas Charter Financial Analysts Society are hosting a luncheon at noon in Walker Hall, Room 203, for CFA holders, people who are interested in holding the designation, and the business community.  Carter Worth is managing director and chief market technician at Oppenheimer Asset Management Inc. in New York City. He is a frequent guest on CNBC, Bloomberg TV and RobTV and has been quoted in various publications, including Barron’s, and has lectured internationally and across the country.

Worth’s work is based on the principles of “collective wisdom” and behavioral science, with particular emphasis on trend recognition, capital flows and price action. As Oppenheimer’s chief market technician, he publishes periodical industry and sector reports, as well as daily market comments. Before joining Oppenheimer, Carter was the chief market strategist for Enrenkrantz King Nussbaum.

Prior to that, he founded Fulcrum Enterprises, which specialized in investment advisory, portfolio strategy and overall asset allocation and stock market analysis. His work in technical analysis began at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette where, as a portfolio strategist, he focused on top-down market analysis with due diligence in all areas of asset allocation, market timing, sector rotation, industry weightings, stock selection and risk management. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in international relations from Boston University.

The Garrison Financial Institute was created in 2005 by a gift from the Garrison family and the Walton Family Charitable Support Foundation to advance financial education and research through practice. Its mission is to enhance student learning through experience, foster research that extends and perfects best practices, and contribute to the economic development of Arkansas and the welfare of its citizens.
