H1N1 Vaccine Available to Campus Community at Pat Walker Health Center

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Pat Walker Health Center starts the spring semester with a good supply of H1N1 vaccine, and shots are being given free of charge to members of the University of Arkansas community.

H1N1 vaccination clinics are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. and Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. 

The vaccine is recommended for everyone as another surge of H1N1 influenza-like illness is anticipated during the next three months. According to the United States Surgeon General, only one in six people in the United States has had H1N1 illness. That means that five out of six people could still contract the H1N1 virus.

“It’s important to remember that when you get vaccinated for H1N1 you’re not just protecting yourself,” said Mary Alice Serafini, executive director of the health center and assistant vice provost for Student Affairs. “It also means you will not pass the disease on to your family members, friends, classmates and colleagues.

“Of course, we are still encouraging everyone to continue to practice good respiratory hygiene to prevent both H1N1 and the seasonal flu,” Serafini added. “Please keep washing hands, protecting others from your coughs and sneezes and stay home if you have a fever.”  

The vaccination clinic hours are now posted on the Pat Walker Health Center Web site under announcements, and can be accessed from the university homepage.
