Bumpers College Dean Candidates to Visit Campus

Five candidates for the position of dean of Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences at the University of Arkansas and associate vice president for agriculture-academic programs, for the statewide University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture, have been selected by the search committee for campus interviews and public presentations.

Candidates will visit the campus in February and March for interviews with the search committee chaired by Dean Jeff Shannon, School of Architecture, and others. Bumpers College faculty and staff are invited to a reception for each candidate. Each candidate will make a presentation to the greater campus community followed by a question-and-answer session. The public is welcome to attend the presentations.

All receptions will be in the Arkansas Union, Room 404MC. All presentations will be in Giffels Auditorium in Old Main. The candidates and the dates of receptions and presentations are as follows:

  • Kevin Heinz, head of the entomology department, Texas A&M University, College Station: Bumpers College reception from 3 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10. Presentation from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11.
  • Donn Shilling, head of the department of crop and soil sciences at the University of Georgia, Athens: Bumpers College reception from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. Monday, March 1. Presentation from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 2.
  • Mike Vayda, associate dean for administration, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences; associate director, Vermont Agricultural Experiment Station; and professor of plant biology, University of Vermont, Burlington: Bumpers College reception 1:45 to 2:45 p.m. Thursday, March 4. Presentation from 4 to 5:15 p.m. Thursday, March 4.
  • William Forsythe, professor and chair, department of nutrition and dietetics, East Carolina University, Greenville, N.C.: Bumpers College Reception, 9:05 to 10:05 a.m. Tuesday, March 9. Presentation from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 9.
  • Lalit Verma, interim dean, Bumpers College, and interim associate vice president-academic programs, Division of Agriculture, University of Arkansas: Reception, 1:45 to 2:45 p.m. Thursday, March 11. Presentation, 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. Thursday, March 11.
