West's most recent book.

A recent article for the academic web blog, Collegestats.org ranks Elliott West, the Alumni Distinguished Professor of History, alongside Maya Angelou, Jimmy Carter, Noam Chomsky, Spike Lee, and Salmon Rushdie as one of the luminaries of modern, American education. In “25 Most Famous College Professor Teaching Today” author Rachel Holtz urges prospective students to consider the educators they might encounter as another point when investigating prospective schools and singles out West as an excellent reason to consider the University of Arkansas.

Holtz includes West, the only history professor on the list, for his leadership in the field, his innovative publications like Growing Up With the Country: Childhood on the Far-Western Frontier, The Way to the West: Essays on the Central Plains and The Contested Plains: Indians, Goldseekers, and the Rush to Colorado, and his award-winning teaching, which gained recognition with the Baum Faculty Teaching Award and made him a finalist in 2009 for the Robert Foster Cherry Award recognizing the outstanding teacher in the nation.
