Professor Recognized as a Fellow of the American Mycological Society

Steve Stephenson, a research professor in the department of biological sciences, was recognized as a Fellow of the Mycological Society of America at their annual meeting at the University of Kentucky during the last week of June.

This award is presented to members of the society who have demonstrated an outstanding record of mycological research, and/or successful teaching and development of teaching materials for mycology, and/or significant service to the society.

Stephenson, who served as an associate editor for the society's journal Mycology from 2003 to 2009, is the author or coauthor of six books and more than 200 papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals. His research in mycology, with particular emphasis on the myxomycetes, or slime molds, has taken him from the tropics to high-latitude regions of both the Arctic and Antarctic.
