University Students, Faculty and Alumnus Earn Emmy Nominations
Journalism professors Larry Foley and Dale Carpenter were nominated for Best Cultural Documentary for their film, Sacred Spaces: the Architecture of Fay Jones. Carpenter also earned nominations for Best Photography and Best Editing. Sacred Spaces also earned a Best Musical Score nomination for University of Arkansas graduate Kevin Croxton.
Brian Petty, a journalism graduate student who also works for university media services, was nominated in the category of Best Student Program for his master's thesis film, Finders Keepers, the story of the Arkansas Diamond Mine near Murfreesboro.
Petty will compete against two other journalism graduate students, Jesse Abdenour and Tony Cosgrove, who were also nominated in the Best Student Program category for their documentary film, Knocked Out, the story of middle-aged boxers.
Professors Foley and Carpenter served as teachers and advisers on both student films. The Mid-America Emmy Awards will be announced Oct. 9 in St. Louis.
All of the nominated films are shown regularly on UATV. Sacred Spaces is also available on DVD from the University of Arkansas Press.
