RazALERT Can Send Emergency Messages to Campus Community

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – RazALERT (pronounced “raise-alert”) is an integrated emergency notification system for sending emergency messages to University of Arkansas students, faculty and staff.

RazALERT enables University Police and authorized administrators to send immediate messages to all members of the campus community through e-mail, cell phone, text message, home phone and TTY/TTD teletype phones.

“The safety of everyone on our campus is a top priority at the University of Arkansas,” said Chancellor G. David Gearhart. “Fast, accurate communication is a key part of any emergency planning. RazALERT gives us the ability to quickly provide our community with the most authoritative information possible during any kind of emergency situation at this university.”

Students, faculty and staff are automatically enrolled in RazALERT through their accounts in ISIS or BASIS. The beginning of the fall semester is a particularly good opportunity to update that contact information, although changes can be made any time of the year. Anyone in the system can have messages sent to as many as six phone numbers and two e-mail addresses through their account, if, for example, they want other family members to receive the emergency messages.

RazALERT was designed for the university and installed in 2008 as part of the Connect-ED communication service from Blackboard Connect Inc. Since its installation it has primarily been used during severe weather events: to notify the campus when classes were canceled or postponed due to snow and ice, and to issue tornado warnings.

More information about the emergency notification system is available at the RazALERT website. The university provides additional emergency information at  the emergency preparedness website. This site posts all RazALERT messages and is the prime source for updated information about any emergency situation. The site also includes, contact information for all campus and local emergency services, a review of the university’s emergency procedures, useful tips on “what to do” in a wide assortment of emergency situations, and complete information about the RazALERT system.
