FAYETTEVILLE – Jeff Long, the Arkansas vice chancellor and director of athletics, has been named to the NCAA Division I Championships/Sports Management Cabinet. One of six Division I cabinets that reports directly to the NCAA Leadership Council and Legislative Council, the Championships/Sports Management cabinet consists of 31 members based on conference representation. Long is scheduled to serve on the cabinet until July 31, 2014.

The Championships/Sports Management Cabinet meets two to three times a year and has oversight authority of all NCAA Division I National Championships and National Collegiate Championships. In addition, the cabinet makes recommendations on sports science issues, including injury surveillance, drug education and drug testing, playing and practice seasons and Olympic sports issues. The cabinet also has oversight of the NCAA statistics program, the championships awards program and provides guidance on legislative proposals as directed by the Legislative Council.

“I appreciate being selected to represent the University of Arkansas and the Southeastern Conference on the NCAA Division I Championships/Sports Management Cabinet,” Long said. “NCAA Championships are an integral part of the student-athlete experience and having the opportunity to help shape our Championships is an exciting responsibility. I am looking forward to working with colleagues from around the country to successfully administrate the various Division I championship events while also addressing important issues facing intercollegiate athletics.”

Long has served in various leadership positions throughout his administrative career in intercollegiate athletics including serving as a member of the NCAA Division I Management Council, NCAA Sports Wagering Task Force, NCAA Amateurism Clearing House Advisory Committee and the Division I-A Athletic Directors Association Board of Trustees Executive Committee.
