Student Leader of the Week: P.J. Lambey

P.J. Lambey is the Center for Leadership and Community Engagement's Student Leader of the Week for Oct. 3-9.

Lambey is from Springdale, Ark., and is majoring in business marketing.

Lambey is in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. and Student African-American Brotherhood. He is also involved with the Inspirational Singers, Connections Mentoring Program, Greek-Life Facilitators, New Greek Council, Gateway to Hope College Ministry and is the Office of Diversity Ambassador.

Lambey sees humility and be willing to serve as key characteristics of a leader. “I feel without service, you cannot effectively lead because you are not benefiting anyone but yourself,” Lambey explained. " I would tell other leaders to make sure they are developing new leaders and try to find a way to get the best out of every person in their group or organization.”

Lambey's most memorable Razorback moment was when he realized this year all of his accomplishments and how blessed he is to have these opportunities. He truly feels he would not be in this position he is right now, if he would have been in another institution. His razorback pride runs deeper and deeper each day, as he gets closer to his degree.

His favorite quote is from John Wooden: "Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are."

The Student Leader of the Week award recognizes a University of Arkansas undergraduate student for excellence in leadership through campus involvement leadership activities or through volunteer and community service programs.

The criteria for nominated students are: 

• Good academic and disciplinary standing with the University of Arkansas
• Exemplifies leadership through personal development, organizational leadership, citizenship and community building.

The Center for Leadership and Community Engagement invites the campus community to nominate students who fit the qualifications. All nomination forms should be submitted to Adrain Smith, Assistant Director of Leadership in the Center for leadership and Community Engagement, Arkansas Union room A665, or via e-mail at atsmith@uark.edu by the first Friday of each month. All nominations will be kept on file and considered for future weeks.
