Needy Recognized for Contributions to Engineering Management, Education

Kim Needy, department head for industrial engineering in the College of Engineering, has received her second Bernie Sarchet Award in two years. This year the award came from the American Society for Engineering Management and was presented at the group's recent conference, hosted by the University of Arkansas. The award is the society's highest honor.
"Dr. Needy epitomizes those qualities the members look for in a recipient," said Joette G. Sonnenberg, president of the American Society for Engineering Management. "This award by her peers recognizes her commitment to engineering management and academic excellence. She has been a valued asset and motivating force in taking the society forward."
In 2009, the American Society for Engineering Education awarded their Engineering Management Division's Bernie Sarchet award to Needy in recognition of her lifetime of achievement in engineering management education.
The awards are named for one of the founding fathers of the academic discipline of engineering management. They are awarded annually to an individual who has made significant contributions over an extended period of time to the discipline and who exemplifies the highest standards of the professorate in engineering management.
